 摘要

Estimatingtheembodied emissions inelectricityhas beenachallenge duetotheinterconnectednessofelectricalgrids. Previous studies useavarietyofmethods that are often inaccurate or difficulttoimplement, lackingastandardized tool. We proposeamethod adaptedfromtheeconomic input-output theory, which we term as "Quasi-Input-Output(QIO)"model,toevaluate embodied emissions inpurchasedelectricity.Themethod takes into accountthedifference betweenthenaturesoftrade inelectricityand in goods and services, abletocapturetheeffectsofboth direct and higher-orderelectricitytransfers inthenetwork. We usetheEurasian Continent grid network asacase, identifying regions where inter-gridelectricitytransfers, both direct and high-order, have sizable impacts on estimatedemissionfactorsofpurchasedelectricity. Overall, while ignoringelectricitytrade can result in errors in embodied emissionsestimation, directly adjustingforelectricitytrade (neglecting higher-order trade) tendstogenerate inaccuracies intheopposite direction. Ourmodelcan be potentially applied asastandard toolfortheaccountingofembodied emissions inpurchasedelectricityin inter-gridelectricitytrade systems. It also providesafoundationforfurther applicationsofinput-output theory intheanalysisofdemand-side driversforenvironmental impactsofinterconnectedgrids. (C) 2017 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
